The Silver City / Southwest NM Branch of AAUW was formed in 1938 by eleven women who wanted to support and advocate for women’s issues.
In addition to the Annual Meeting held in May, Monthly general meetings are held throughout the year, featuring pertinent programs of interest and concern.
Interest groups are formed throughout the year to further explore and address issues of vital importance to women and girls.
Beginning in February of each year, we sponsor “Southwest New Mexico STEM Roadshow” [formerly “EYH”] events for middle-school girls in southwest New Mexico. These events emphasize the opportunities available and what girls can do if they take more classes in the STEM fields [Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math].
This branch gives the Barbara Brown Scholarship to returning women students at WNMU. The Eulalia Lewis Memorial Scholarship also supports students at WNMU.
