(En español) “Expanding Your Horizons” (EYH) is a national program that aims to inspire girls to recognize their potential and pursue opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). For the last 27 years, we held this annual event in-person on the campus of Western New Mexico University for area girls in grades 5-8, with hundreds of girls attending the one-day conference with hands-on workshops led by women in STEM fields. Given pandemic restrictions, however, for 2021 we will use a different approach. For each registered girl, we are creating a take-home EYH box with six or seven do-it-yourself STEM activities. Each box will include all materials needed for the activities, written instructions in Spanish and English, and an “EYH-in-a-Box” t-shirt. We plan to distribute boxes in late May.
Registration is planned for March 1-12, 2021.
