“Expanding Your Horizons” (EYH) is a national program that aims to inspire girls to recognize their potential and pursue opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). For 27 years, we have held this annual event in-person on the campus of Western New Mexico University; students participate for FREE. Each year, hundreds of girls in grades 5-8 from throughout southwestern New Mexico have attended the one-day conference with hands-on workshops led by women in STEM fields.
Due to pandemic restrictions, for 2021 we used a different approach: For each registered girl, we created a take-home EYH box containing all materials and instructions for fun do-it-yourself STEM activities. For 2022, we are once again presenting EYH-in-a-Box, with almost all new activities! Every box will include all materials needed for the activities, written instructions in Spanish and English, and an “EYH-in-a-Box” t-shirt. We plan to distribute boxes through schools in May.
